5 Tips For Effectively Dealing With A Dental Emergency
- September 6, 2016
Welcome back to another blog from your friends at Pioneer Dental Group! Our Oregon City, OR dental team is dedicated to helping patients get the high-quality care they deserve … especially in urgent situations! Today, we would like to offer you five tips for dealing with dental emergencies like a pro. Follow these steps to expertly handle a n urgent dental situation. Please give us a call if you have any questions or concerns, or if you need to see a dentist right away.
Tip #1: Replace Knocked Out Teeth
Has one of your teeth been knocked out? The first thing you should do in a situation like this is try to replace the tooth. Carefully rinse it off and, without touching the roots, try to place it back in its socket. Doing this will give us a better chance of being able to reattach your natural tooth. Knocked out teeth may be surgically restored as long as the roots are not damaged.
Tip #2: Protect Loose Teeth Fragments
If you have any loose teeth fragments (or whole teeth that cannot be placed back into the socket), you must protect them until you can get to our office. Collect the fragments, make sure they are clean of debris, and place them in a jar or bag with some milk or water. This will keep them most and protected until a dentist can see you. Just be sure not to touch the root of a tooth! They are very fragile and can be damaged easily.
Tip #3: Stop Any Bleeding
You should also address any bleeding right away. This means trying to stop the flow of blood from your mouth. This should not take any longer than about 20 minutes. If bleeding persists or if there is a very large amount of blood, please do not hesitate to seek emergency treatment at a hospital. To stop bleeding, put pressure on the area … it should stop within a few minutes.
Tip #4: Contact Our Office For Help
Once your situation is secure, you should get to our office as soon as possible to seek treatment. Please call us immediately to schedule an emergency appointment. We will work hard to get you in as soon as possible. In the case of a dental emergency, care offered by our team is often necessary to save the life of your tooth. We offer a variety of services that can be used to restore your tooth or even replace it, if necessary.
Tip #5: Get To An E.R. Right Away If At Any Time Necessary
If you think the situation could be life-threatening in any way, please get to an emergency room immediately. If you are loosing a lot of blood or are otherwise in imminent danger, please do not hesitate to get to an E.R.
