The secret to a smile that will last a lifetime is to take routine care of your teeth. That means brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist at least twice each year. As they say, care for teeth you want to keep!
Benjamin Franklin is known for saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” This absolutely applies to your overall oral health. The care that you put into your teeth will protect you from future harm and expense. Consider this: the average cost of a single dental implant is the same as over a decade of routine dental cleanings and exams!
Your First Appointment
When you walk into Pioneer Dental Group for the first time, you are going to get the star treatment! A new patient appointment generally lasts for about an hour and a half. During that time, we are going to complete an exam, take X-rays, take intraoral pictures, complete an oral cancer screening, and have a consultation to see what your smile goals are and how we can help you achieve them!
Before you leave, you should go ahead and make your next appointment so that it is already on the calendar! For most patients, six months between appointments is ideal. In rare instances, we might ask that you come in more often so that we can keep an eye on a particularly troublesome aspect of your oral health.
The Importance of a Routine
It’s tempting to tell yourself that you will see the dentist when you need to see the dentist, but the truth isn’t quite as attractive. What you don’t realize is that if you wait for your mouth to be in pain or discomfort, your appointment is going to be much less pleasant than if you came in for those routine visits.
Think about your mouth as if it were your car. Skip five to ten years’ worth of oil changes and tire rotation and then see how well your car is running. You probably wouldn’t want to take it for a spin across the country, that’s for sure.
Your teeth are in a similar situation. If you don’t take the time to provide that routine maintenance to your teeth, you cannot expect your teeth to be up for the task of chewing and smiling for the rest of your life.
While at your next cleaning, be sure to ask us about other steps you can take to prevent decay from ever beginning. With dental sealants, fluoride varnish, and other tips, we can help you achieve healthier teeth with minimal effort or cost!
