Are you having trouble sleeping at night? Have you been told you have sleep apnea? Is your partner losing sleep because of your constant snoring? If so, it’s time you called Pioneer Dental Group!
Sleep apnea is a serious condition that can be life threatening when it is not diagnosed in a timely manner. During obstructive sleep apnea, the tissues in the back of your throat collapse too much during your breathing and block off your airway. This causes the jolting awake that you may experience throughout the night, as well as gasping or choking noises you make while trying to get air.
Snoring is caused from the vibrations off of the tissues in the back of your mouth. Snoring can cause you to wake up when it becomes loud or closes off part of your airway.
Signs of Sleep Apnea
Those who have sleep apnea may experience a variety of symptoms, including:
- Trouble sleeping and jolting awake, even if you don’t remember doing so in your sleep
- Loud and persistent snoring
- Sore or dry mouth in the morning
- Headaches in the morning
- Tiredness and drowsiness throughout the day
We Offer Sleep Testing Studies
If you believe that you have sleep apnea, the first thing that needs to be done is to have a sleep study performed. Dr. Pioch works closely with a physician to have the study conducted. Once the study is completed, you will receive a diagnosis and Dr. Pioch will know how to approach treatment properly.
Treatments for Snoring and Sleep Apnea
If your sleep test determines that you do have sleep apnea, Pioneer Dental Group offers a great alternative to a CPAP machine since not all patients enjoy using this device as it can be loud and uncomfortable.
We offer appliances to help keep your airway open throughout the night. Dr. Pioch will speak with you about the appliance – an oral appliance or nightguard – and take an impression to ensure it fits correctly. You will wear this device in your mouth when you sleep, and it will pull your lower jaw forward slightly to keep your airway open.
