Oral surgery is one of those things that still sends shivers down people’s spines when it’s mentioned. A lot of people grew up hearing horror stories about having to have a dental surgical procedure. Some people even put off needed treatment due to those tales. At Pioneer Dental Group in Oregon City, OR, we’ve heard all the old stories, and we think that oral surgery gets a really undeserved bad rap.
At some point, you may need to undergo an oral surgical procedure. We hope not, but these things happen. We want you to know about modern oral surgery and put those old horror stories to rest.
We Do Oral Surgery
One of the things that people hate is having to travel to a different dental practice, undergo surgery, and then deal with an entirely different set of staff. Afterwards, they have to return to their regular dentist for aftercare.
With Pioneer Dental Group, you can avoid that hassle and discomfort. We perform a variety of oral surgeries in our comfortable, state-of-the-art practice, while you’re surrounded by caring people who you already know.
You can also take advantage of our wide array of personal comfort items, including memory foam chairs, blankets, and pillows. And if you need a little distraction, you can catch your your favorite TV show during the procedure.
Here are the oral surgery procedures we can perform for you.
Wisdom Tooth Extraction
This is one of the most common forms of oral surgery. Wisdom teeth are also known as third molars, and it’s quite common for those molars to crowd the other teeth as they emerge. Typically, wisdom tooth extraction is performed on younger people, but these third molars have been known to erupt later in life.
Due to the relative lack of space in our mouths, wisdom teeth can become misaligned as they emerge. They can also fail to emerge, or only partly emerge, even though they’re growing, which can cause considerable pain. Most wisdom teeth emerge, or try to, during late adolescence.
The wisdom teeth removal process is another one of those myths that seems to refuse to die. While some are complicated, the procedure is completed very quickly on large majority of patients. Of those, many are able to return to their normal activities the next day.
Wisdom teeth aren’t the only ones that may need to be extracted, however. Sometimes teeth no longer function in the mouth due to decay or accident. When that happens, we are able to extract those troublesome teeth. Often, it’s a relatively straightforward and simple process. If you have teeth that aren’t functioning, don’t hesitate to contact us at (503) 388-4691 or by using our online form.
The distance between the upper jaw and the sinus above is one of the things that determines whether people can get dental implants in their upper jaw. For people who can benefit from implants, but whose sinus is too close, we proudly offer sinus lift surgery.
Sinus lifts do exactly that – raise the sinus to allow implants to be placed safely. This is a fairly uncommon problem, but rest assured that if you need a sinus lift, we can handle the procedure for you in-house.
Once a tooth is lost, the bone beneath gradually begins to weaken due to lack of stimulation. If enough time passes, the bone may be too narrow or too weak to accept dental implants.
While some dentists might tell you there’s nothing that can be done, don’t believe them. Pioneer Dental Care proudly offers bone grafting to strengthen your bone and make placing implants possible.
Bone grafting places additional bone over the weakened bone. After a time, the existing bone absorbs the additional bone, thereby becoming stronger and thicker. Once that happens, dental implants can be placed safely and securely.
Dental Sedation Options
We understand that you might still be a little anxious about the prospect of oral surgery. In addition to our many comfort options, we also offer dental sedation to help you be as relaxed and comfortable as possible. If you have any concerns about surgery, please contact our office by calling (503) 388-4691.
